About pointers
is it breed for you?

Temperament

They are extremely emotional and energetic dogs that can adapt perfectly to any conditions as long as they are close to their people.

Pointers are completely unsuitable for keeping in a pen, first of all because of their short hair (when they cannot run - they get cold quickly), but above all because of their psyche. A Pointer separated from its family, deprived of daily contact with people quickly he will go wild and become mentally closed.

Does a pointer need a house with a garden? Not necessarily. He will do well in even the smallest apartment (Basco lived with us in Warsaw for 2 years on 32 sq m), provided he gets a solid daily dose of activities that will allow him to use up his energy.

Care

Even though they are quite large dogs (males grow up to 70 cm at the withers and weigh 30-35 kg), their care does not require any effort. During shedding periods, just comb it with a rubber brush, take a bath from time to time (a bathtub is useful here, although a shower can also be used - we tested it) and that's it.

This does not mean, of course, that pointers do not shed - on the contrary ;) Even though the fur is short and without an undercoat, white needles remain all over the house - especially in the places our Princes lie down. The advantage is the lack of dog smell - the pointer cannot be smelled in the house (unless he is running in a freshly fertilized field...)

Health

Pointers are generally a healthy and hardy breed. They are not prone to hereditary diseases. As with any large breed, attention should be paid to proper nutrition, especially during the growth period, so that the skeletal system can develop properly. There are cases of dysplasia, although in Poland since 2011 there has been an obligation to x-ray dogs intended for breeding, which significantly reduces the problem. Deafness can occur in dogs with a lot of white color.

They are not very resistant to cold due to the lack of an undercoat. They are not afraid of winter as long as they can warm up by running.

If your dog has to walk on a leash or stand in the cold for a longer period of time, you need to provide him with a blanket.

In addition, they visit the vet during vaccinations.

Remember to buy a puppy from a good breeding farm where the breeder examines its dogs - this gives you a greater probability of buying a healthy puppy :).
